If you can bring yourself away from technology for a while and actually sit in nature it’s hard not to appreciate the beautiful scenery. No matter where you live there is a camping spot, just a short drive away from your home. Get away with the family and enjoy the fresh air under a beautiful star filled sky, next to a warm campfire. Don’t forget to bring the supplies for the s’mores!

First on our list is a Scavenger Hunt!

Who doesn’t love a good scavenger hunt? The great thing about a scavenger hunt is you can make them as simple or as complex as you want! If you have younger kids in the family your hunt might consist of simple things such as trees, bugs or rocks. For the adults you can go more specific with the same items. I’d shy away from the bears and snakes!

The Second item on our list is hiking.

There are plenty of cool things to see around the campground but there are lots more to see if you venture deeper into the woods. Just be sure you take a map of the surroundings or have a great sense of direction. Stay on the trails to make sure you don’t get lost. Not only will you get to enjoy the beauty of nature but you’ll also get some great exercise. Don’t forget to prepare for the journey. You’ll need plenty of water and snacks. If you plan to take a long journey you may want to bring along other advanced camping gear!

Third on our list is Amateur Astronomy

Just because it gets dark doesn’t mean the camping trip is over, the fun has just began! You don’t even need a telescope to check out some amazing stars and constellations. A fun idea would be to practice identifying some planets and constellations before the camping trip and then incorporating them into the scavenger hunt!
